Ashfield Aquatic Centre

The Ashfield Aquatic Centre will replace the old Ashfield Olympic Pool which was one of the post Olympic games municipal pools built around Australia. The original 1962 pools are reaching the end of the viable structural life. The new centre will create a mix of community leisure pool and elite sports centre. The new aquatic centre is the third largest in Sydney (based on water area).
The 2 stage masterplan delivers a full community Aquatic Centre to service Sydney’s Inner West and becomes the primary Inner City, International Standard water polo venue, with specialist training facilities. The primary focus of the new centre is directed towards its regional community role. Aquatic facilities have been arranged to create a safe, easily supervised child – youth recreation centre. The larger 10 lane 50m pool has been designed with an adjustable split boom to double as a lap pool for training and a very large constant depth , older child’s recreation/play pool. This pool has been grouped with the new child’s leisure pool and the existing indoor leisure pool to create a safe, easily supervised and managed family play area. The internal program pool doubles as a hydrotherapy treatment pool. The Ashfield Aquatic Centre will also become an important Sports Facility and Elite Sports Facility for the Inner City region. The facility includes the redesign of the full site a as a community recreation centre campus.
